Grand Hacienda Award

Winner of the 2016 Haciendas Parade of Homes Grand Hacienda Award as well as the Best Kitchen Award, this contemporary hilltop residence offers 300-degree views of the Sangre de Cristo, Ortiz, and Sandia Mountains. Designed by Robert Zachry, AIA, this residence represents the best in inside/outside Santa Fe living.

A glass pivot door greets you at the entry, leading to an open plan design and an interior atrium visible from the main living areas. The gourmet kitchen features a butler's pantry and an oversized quartz-topped island. Off the spacious master wing is a glass hallway with access to the plunge pool and spacious outdoor living spaces.

A 32-panel photovoltaic array on the roof, solar hot water, and special mechanical features -- radiant heating and cooling and a snow-melt driveway -- prove the beauty of this home goes well beyond aesthetics.

This project presented several challenges. Access to the house was a steep hillside and encumbered by stringent, and very necessary, fire department requirements, local covenants and the site's natural topography. The house was literally designed around a Fire apparatus turn-around area. Of great importance to the owners and the architect was to capture the dramatic views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east and afford sun protection on the west. The architect, the owners, and the builder worked hard together to achieve a composition that met those challenges and did it within a tight budget.
